Metropolitan Kitchen

This young family wanted their love of danish modern furniture translated into their kitchen. We chose the organic slab of walnut from the cabinet maker's own stock. He custom built all of the cabinets and handles to exact specifications, to avoid an "off the shelf" look. We topped the cabinetry with Carerra marble and used hand-crafted subway tiles for the backsplash. Stainless steel appliances and a slate floor inject a contemporary flair to a 60's influenced space in a Corbusier styled building. Additionally, we took down a wall which divided the kitchen from the living room, allowing the home-owners to keep a watchful eye on their toddler son while cooking dinner. Vintage mid-century modern accessories from my husband's store "Relic" in Beacon, NY helped put icing on the cake.
